May 3 to May 31, 2026:
Artist 2 Artist
On Sunday, May 3rd, 2026, the Long Beach Creative Group is hosting an opening reception from 1-4 pm for Artist 2 Artist in the Rod Briggs Gallery, located at 2221 E Broadway in Long Beach. Members of the LBCG board each invited one artist to participate, including Rhiannon Aarons, Eric Almanza, Carlos Cordero, Dellis Frank, Veronica Giorgetti, Beanie Kaman, Katie Stubblefield, and Awadé Wade. The show runs through May 31, 2026, and regular gallery hours are 1-4 pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
“Our mission is to showcase the breathtaking diversity of artistic talent in our community,” said LBCG board president, Dorte Christjansen, “and we have provocative digital works, paintings, pen and ink images, and even fiber art in the show.
“My selection,” continued Dorte, “is Veronica Giorgetti, who’s works translate ancient physical spaces into physical forms that become geometric systems that have long defined the environments in which human beings live.”
Kay Erickson selected Beanie Kaman, who lost her home in the Palisades fire. “I love her great artistic energy and spirit,” Erickson said. “It comes through in her wonderful fabric based artwork.”
Dellis Frank was chosen by Karena Massengill. “She is a powerful and exuberant artist who speaks the truth through her mixed media artwork,” Massengill said.
“I selected Rhiannon to participate because I find her work to be constantly challenging, beautiful, and surprising,” said Sander Roscoe Wolff, the board’s Community Outreach Coordinator. “She’s also on the faculty at CSULB.”
The board’s Special Events coordinator, Carlos Cordero, selected Katie Stubblefield to participate. “I’m drawn to her urban structural compositions,” Cordero said, “that create an abstract space and time, with abandoned and invasive human constructs captured and interpreted with oil-based pens and Sharpie’s on reclaimed plexiglass.”
There will be a free screening of “For No Good Reason” on Friday, May 15, at 7:30 pm about celebrated and controversial British artist Ralph Steadman, who’s work is currently on display at the Torrance Art Museum through Saturday, May 9.
We are also presenting a free artist talk on Sunday, May 24th, at 2 pm. Many of the artists in the exhibition will participate.
This exhibition is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Arts Council for Long Beach, the Port of Long Beach, and the ongoing support of the Briggs Family Trust.
The LBCG is an established consortium of experienced artists, educators, and art enthusiasts engaged in creating exhibit space and opportunities for local artists through curated exhibits and events. Since 2018, the Rod Briggs Gallery has enabled the Group to consistently and professionally present the depth and diversity of artistic expression in Long Beach and the surrounding communities.
The Rod Briggs Gallery is located at 2221 East Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803. During exhibits, the gallery is open to the public Fridays through Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm. No appointment is required. Curated by Kay Erickson
With the advent of the digital world, touching all things in our world, changes occurred in art, especially photography.
This exhibit will show viewers the original untouched photograph, as captured in the camera, next to the same photo which has been altered in some way, including Photoshop, AI, paint, and any other process that transforms the original image.
If you have framed prints that exemplify this, please send samples to KayErickson851@gmail.com
Please include your name, email address, title, and size of the framed work.
Re-interpreting Rod: Group Exhibition
August 16th to September 19th, 2026
Curated by Cory Bilicko
This project proposes a dynamic, community-centered exhibition and workshop. Rather than presenting artwork as fixed or static, the exhibit positions Briggs’s work as a living foundation for dialogue, experimentation and creative exchange. By inviting contemporary artists to respond to his paintings through their own materials, perspectives and cultural lenses, the exhibit transforms a traditional gallery experience into an active conversation across time, style and community.
The primary goal of this project is to expand access to and engagement with Rod Briggs’s work while simultaneously elevating the voices of local artists. Through reinterpretation, participating artists, including Tracy Allen, Tony Barrera, Cory Bilicko, Aria Bradfield, James Brooks, Kadie Dicarlo, David Early, Susan Hawkins, Nate Jones, Calvin Konen, Jeff McMillan, Jacqueline Nguyễn, Vince Ruez-Abdo, Jamie Russom, Julio Salgado, Anna Schoendorfer, Morgan Stahlkuppe, Emily Tanaka, Bernard Vyzga, and Ivan Zuno will generate new pathways into Briggs’s themes, making them more accessible and resonant to broader and more diverse audiences. Visitors will encounter both the original works and their reinterpretations, encouraging deeper looking, critical thinking and personal connection. This layered experience fosters curiosity and invites audiences to consider how meaning evolves when art is revisited through different lived experiences.
