The Woman’s Perspective: Celebrating 50 Years of the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art

“In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art (SCWCA), The Woman’s Perspective is a timely and powerful exhibition that invites viewers to experience the world through the eyes of women. Presented by the Long Beach Creative Group, this exhibition features an exceptional group of artists working across a range of media and disciplines—each offering a deeply personal and socially resonant view into the multifaceted experiences of womanhood.

This exhibition proudly kicks off SCWCA’s milestone 50th year, marking half a century of advocacy, creativity, and community building.

The exhibition’s title, The Woman’s Perspective, reflects a collective voice rooted in individual truth. The works on view delve into themes of identity, resilience, empowerment, family, body politics, and the often-unseen labor and complexity of everyday life. These artworks serve as visual essays—challenging assumptions, questioning norms, and inviting audiences to engage in nuanced and empathetic reflection.

Women artists have historically been underrepresented in galleries, museums, and mainstream art spaces. By centering their voices, this exhibition not only uplifts diverse artistic practices, but also recognizes the critical role that women have played—and continue to play—in shaping contemporary art and culture. Whether through abstraction, portraiture, photography, sculpture, or mixed media, each piece speaks to a lived experience that is at once deeply personal and undeniably universal.

Curated in collaboration with SCWCA, this exhibition is both a celebration and a call to action. It honors a legacy of artistic activism while highlighting the ongoing need for spaces that support and amplify women’s creative voices. It is also a testament to the power of community—showcasing the strength that comes when women artists gather, support one another, and share their visions with the world.

The Long Beach Creative Group is proud to host The Woman’s Perspective as part of its continued commitment to showcasing underrepresented voices and fostering inclusive, educational, and thought-provoking artistic dialogue within the Long Beach community and beyond.

Upcoming Exhibitions

2025

Dreams, Doppelgängers, and Parallel Universes

August 17th to September 13th

This solo exhibition features four years of studio work, presenting large-format figurative paintings that reflect the divisions of our time—cultural, political, and psychological. Addressing themes like COVID-19, BLM, Me Too, climate change, and the crisis of democracy, the works juxtapose current events with anonymous figures, creating a narrative that questions and deconstructs the legacy of history painting. Through spatial fracturing, non-objective color, and absurdist symbolism, the exhibition conveys the fragmented, oppositional realities of contemporary America, capturing the dissociative experience of living through this complex era.

Long Beach Vibes (Open Call)

October 11th to November 15th

This exhibition celebrates Long Beach street culture, showcasing the raw and vibrant arts that often exist outside traditional spaces. Highlighting dynamic self-expression, it features work from both established and emerging artists who channel the energy of the streets. The show aims to capture the diverse spirit of Long Beach, blending influences from car, tattoo, LGBTQ+, skateboard, surf, and music cultures, along with the city’s rich ethnic diversity, creating a true representation of its creative pulse.
